In Japan people who are masters of traditional handcrafts are said to have takumi (craft) .
As more and more things are created through mass production, the Japanese are working up to the special worth of products created by individual artisans whose skills have been honed over a lifetime.
(Of course ,there are parts of the mass-production process-things like polishing or grinding -that require the sort of intuition and precision that only a human with takumi can achieve)
Accepting the traditional teacher-student relationship is an
important part of passing takumi from one generation to the next.
